Finding Rest in the Psalms
By Cassie Herbert
In my most devastating and challenging seasons of life, the Psalms have been a refuge to me. In processing grief, transitioning to new seasons, or dealing with physical and mental health issues, the Psalms have become much more than a book to me - more of a living comfort and connection to the peace of God. In the Psalms we find every emotion imaginable. The Psalms are humanity anchored in the pursuit of God. May the following Psalms lift your eyes upward as you sojourn through the brokenness and beauty of this life.
A Psalm for the Vulnerable - Psalm 91
To the woman who has been poked and prodded more times than she can count - He holds your hand
To the woman who has been lain naked and exposed on the examination table - He is your covering
To the woman who has left a piece of herself in the hospital room - He makes you whole
To the woman who feels embarrassed, ashamed, broken, and undone - He is the source of your dignity, truth, and victory
A Psalm for the Waiting - Psalm 131
To the woman waiting for healing - Rest in His care
To the woman waiting for answers - Trust in His plans
To the woman waiting for peace - Quiet your mind in His presence
To the woman waiting for far too many things - Surrender to His goodness, hope, and love
A Psalm for the Condemned and Ashamed - Psalm 51, 130
To the woman whose past is haunting her, turning her dreams to nightmares - The Lord forgives your sins
To the woman whose sin seems like a weight far too heavy to bear - He restores you to joy
To the woman whose life seems marked, stained, and defiled - He washes you whiter than snow
To the woman whose path forward seems murky and difficult - Hope in the Lord
A Psalm for the Insecure - Psalm 139
To the woman who feels worthless and unloved - The Artist of the Universe created you with love and intention
To the woman who feels unqualified to pursue God-given dreams - He promises to go before you and behind you
To the woman who is afraid of being alone - The Lord is with you in every nook and cranny of life
To the woman who is not sure if she’s doing this life right at all - Ask and you will receive guidance
A Psalm for the Exhausted - Psalm 27, 61
To the woman struggling to get out the door, battling all life’s “to-dos” - He reigns
To the woman reading this from her bed not sure if she can get up - He redeems
To the woman still sitting at her desk past work time too tired to leave - He renews
To the woman canceling evening plans for a second (or maybe third) time - He remains
A Psalm for the Battle - Psalm 18
To the woman looking to climb a metaphorical Mt. Everest - God is your Rock
To the woman grasping her Anchor in the midst of the tempest - God is your Deliver
To the woman believing for the miraculous - God Lives
To the woman feeling the enemy breathing down her neck - God equips you to Fight
May the words of the Psalms sink into your heart, mind, and soul as you rest in the truth that we have a God who journeys with us. Take it inch by inch, dear friends…
