Our Weakness, His Strength
"After this time had passed, I, Nebuchadnezzar, looked up to heaven. My sanity returned, and I praised and worshiped the Most High and honored the one who lives forever." Daniel 4:34
King Nebuchadnezzar was rich and powerful. His great weakness was pride and self-sufficiency. He mistakenly thought that everything he had was by his own power. God had warned him to change his thinking and way of life, but the king didn't listen. So God humbled him...King Nebuchadnezzar lost his kingdom and his sanity.
God restored the king's sanity and kingdom after he simply looked to heaven. This small gesture represented King Nebuchadnezzar's surrender to God. By doing this, he acknowledged that God was greater than him. He admitted his weakness and need for God.
Sometimes that's where we need to start. Sometimes all we have to give is "faith as small as a mustard seed." The good news is that Jesus told us in Matthew 17:20 that that is all we need. We need to put our faith in God's strength rather than our own. With each small step of faith, God builds our spiritual strength. Sanctification is a process that lasts our whole lives, but it starts with that small step of faith.
