When You Feel Like You Don’t Fit In

I don't know who needs to hear this, but it's okay if you feel like you don't fit in...

Like you have a lot of friends, but there's no one place where you belong.

Like you don't quite fit in with your mom friends because being a special needs mama is a unique path.

Like you don't quite fit in with the typical Christian crowd because you're a bit rough around the edges.

Like you don't quite fit in with your friends outside the church because you talk about Jesus "too much."

Like you don't have one group where you truly feel like you belong. Instead, a little piece of your heart belongs to each group.

You love your mom friends because they don't mind the noise, chaos, and mess that never fails to follow you around everywhere.

You love your Christian friends because they show you the heart of Jesus.

You love your friends outside the church because you get to show them the heart of Jesus.

But, no matter where you go, you feel just a little bit out of place.

You don't have any one group that is "your people."

You don't have one person who is "your person."

You aren't guaranteed, or even expecting, an invite when that group gets together.

It's not even that they don't like you. They do.

It's not even that they are mean and intentionally leaving you out. They're probably not.

But, it's normal to feel left out, friends.

It's normal to see the smiling pictures on Facebook and feel your stomach drop.

It's normal to be tempted to change yourself to fit in a little bit better.

But don't do it, beautiful friend.

Jesus wrote this story for you for a reason. You might not see it now, but someday you will.

We each have to walk our own paths, even when it's hard and feels lonely.

Hang in there. Know you're not alone. Lean on Jesus. He struggled with friendships too, and He's always here with us.
