Navigating the Waters of Faith & Mental Health
How to Change Your Eating Habits While Struggling with Mental Health
I think by now most of us know that how we eat is connected to our health…both physical and mental. BUT have you ever tried drastically changing the way you eat when you’re physically and mentally exhausted, stressed, anxious, and living in survival mode? It’s not easy! When you’re trying to make big life changes to improve your mental health while you’re struggling, it’s like there’s a disconnect between your knowledge and your willpower. You know what you have to do, and you WANT to do it. However, life circumstances make it hard.
What Are Boundaries?
Boundaries permeate every aspect of our lives and relationships with others. There is a balance to helping others without enabling them to continue in dysfunction.
What is the Foundation of Your Friendship?
Our lives need to be built on the firm foundation of the word of God. This concept seeps into every part of our lives, including friendships.
4 Easy Steps to Lament
Some people think that lament should be reserved for horrible tragedies and life-changing grief. But what if we practiced lament with our every-day disappointments? Would we then be more prepared to turn to God and use the same framework when a big tragedy hit? Would our relationship with God be deeper and more honest? I think when we hold back these parts of our lives, we slowly build a barrier between ourselves and God.
Why We Can Trust God With Our Anxiety
Let me set the scene for you. The Israelites are on the other side of the Jordan River, right at the edge of the Promised Land. You know, the place they’ve been wandering in the wilderness, waiting to enter, for the past 40 years. Moses, their leader for that entire time, just died. They are mourning. Joshua, who was mourning his mentor, was their new leader. This would be his first time leading over 2 million people on his own. Once they crossed the river to enter the Promised Land, they would have to drive out the Canaanites who already lived there. To add to their anxieties, they screwed it up the last time. They could have entered the Promised Land 39 years prior, but they didn’t trust and obey God. I guarantee you they were all nervous, worried, afraid, and full of anxiety, especially Joshua, who had the great responsibility of leading these people.
